Application and use

HERMAtherm PP film combines the characteristics of thermal papers with the durability of PP-films.

Printing speeds of up to 200 mm/s are possible in direct thermal printing.

Printing with traditional printing methods like UV flexo or UV offset is also possible. However ink keying of the preprint in wet condition is limited. The inks should be suitable for printing thermal films, consulting of ink supplier is recommended. A corona treatment prior to printing may have a positive effect on ink trapping and ink adhesion.

Web temperature during curing should not exceed 50 °C in order to prevent an early reaction of the thermo reactive ink.

Basically, suitability tests should be performed under customer and application specific conditions.

The thermal print of HERMAtherm PP white 65 features a high water resistance and a limited oil resistance. HERMAtherm PP white 65 does not contain BPA and is suitable for applications where high durability is required such as logistic labels, luggage tags but also for food or meat labels.

The adhesive 62Gpt shows a very high tack even on cold surfaces down to -10 °C. Due to the high initial tack even on moist surfaces 62Gpt is particularly suited for labelling polar and nonpolar surfaces such as plastic containers, film wrappings and other packaging materials. The 62Gpt suits especially well for fast running dispensers, in which the initial tack has to be built up extremely quickly as f.ex. when the labels are blown on the substrate.Once labelled the adhesive is highly waterproof.

The supercalendered glassine is perfectly suited for assignment in labelling machines equipped with optical or mechanical scanners.

Processing

Excellent die-cutting characteristics on all customary machines. As part of a self-adhesive compound HERMA PW (517) offers excellent die-cutting characteristics with all customary flatbed and rotary die-cutting tools.

Storage conditions

Storing at a temperature of 20 ± 5 °C, a relative humidity of 45 ± 5 % and a dark storage is recommended. Moisture, heat and direct sunlight have to be avoided.

The shelf life is two years from date of production.

Regulations concerning contact with food

HERMAtherm PP white 65 complies with the legal requirements or recommendations of Regulation (EC) no. 1935/2004 and (EU) no. 10/2011 and subsequent amendments up to Regulation (EC) no. 2017/752 on plastics and articles intended to come into contact with food as well as of Regulation (EC) no. 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.

The thermal film according to the sample material is physiologically and toxicologically safe when used as intended and may therefore be used in printers and scales for labelling goods. However, it may only stand in direct contact which such kind of foodstuffs which are peeled, shelled or washed before consumption according to experience. (ISEGA Research and Development Institute, Aschaffenburg)

All ingredients of adhesive 62Gpt comply with recommendation BfR XIV or FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).

The pressure-sensitive adhesive 62Gpt can be safely used for the back coating of labels for the labelling of foodstuffs for storage at room temperature and below. It may be used in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs that can be assigned a correction factor of at least 3 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011. Furthermore, the adhesive may be used for laminating various materials. In this case, cut edge contact with food is harmless as far as the above mentioned adhesive is concerned. It must be ensured that the relevant migration limits are complied with by the laminated packaging (Declaration of no objection valid until 10.10.2025).

The paper liner complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.
